Gapang offers the widest choice in accommodation on Pulau Weh, from
basic wooden huts on the beach, or nice, simple bungalows spread out
along the hill overlooking the bay to comfortable bungalows with springbeds,
bathrooms, fans or AC and TV in a garden setting at the entrance to
the beach. Prices ranges from 3 to 20 € (Euro) per
night. |
| After the tsunami: Both Leguna and Gapang Resort were not touched by the wave, and are open as usual. Same applies for the 3 basic bungalows of our neighbour on the beach. |
Gapang Beach is an unique beach, with white sand halfway around
the bay, surrounded by large overhanging trees; the 'Gapang' trees.
So you can choose to sit on the beach in the sun, or in the shade
of these grand old trees.
And where in the world can you overlook the ocean waiting for some
black fintips coming out of the water, grap your mask and fins to
snorkel with some manta's feeding on the plankton? |

On Gapang Beach there are six restaurants to choose
from. There's choice from local Acehnese food, more general Indonesian
dishes, tropical fruit salads and some basic Western food such as
pancakes, sandwiches, french fries and Kentucky fried chicken for
example. Local versions of Pizza and Lasagna are also possible, when
ordered in time before to allow for the neccesary preparations. Also
it's possible to order other special meals beforehand, such as BBQ
Fish. (All fish on Pulau Weh is extremely fresh, so some people really
fancy our tuna for making sushimi themselves.) Cheap and good original
Achenese "family food" is served every night in a local
family restaurant here, where you still sit on the ground while eating. |

After the tsunami: The "warung" close to the resorts serves cheap local food: rice, vegetables, fried fish, tempe, fish or chicken curry's and noodles. The seaview restaurant in Leguna Resort and the restaurant of Gapang Resort are open. On the beach 5 rebuild restaurants reopend; mama Jungle's restaurant serves family dinners just like before, also Pak Yahya, Suykur our neighbour and Dat's Zero Cafe are open for BBQ fish dinners, sandwiches and banana pancakes. And enjoy some spaghetti at Buchari's Limbo Restaurant. |

Beer, wine and a few kinds of the local Indonesian brands of "firewater" are usually available on the beach, and beer can also be had in one of the hotels in Sabang. |
